These six wines are stone cold summer classics, offering the perfect glass for every summer moment from that first cool glass in the evening to a beautiful barbecue red. This is the summer case you’ve been looking for.
1 x Col Fondo Prosecco – This fantastic example from Case Paolin is a different beast to the vast majority of Proseccos and really impressed (and surprised) us at a recent tasting. Made in the original old-fashioned way Col Fondo has a natural sediment and second fermentation takes place in the bottle, this gives it a gentle spritz and a natural haze. It has scents of flowers, yellow fruit and bread crust with a deep mineral streak on the palate. An uplifting first glass perfect for a warm summer’s eve.
1 x Sibiliano Grillo – From Sicily and has fresh, ripe stone fruits and clear, apple-like acidity. It is a softer style of unoaked white, slightly creamy and has a whisp of minerality. This is a refreshing delight at the end of a long hot day.
1 x Les (H)autres Terres Chardonnay – Pure and perfectly balanced, it has hints of toasted nuts leading on to clean lemony finish. Very classy Chardonnay.
1 x Made In Provence Rosé – Our best selling Rosé, and with good reason. It’s the perfect Provencale rosé and the 2019 is the best vintage yet.
1 x Trinch – A 100% Cabernet Franc made biodynamically in Bourgueil in the Loire by star winemakers Catherine and Pierre Breton. It has delicious blueberry and blackcurrant notes along with a refreshing acidity. This is perfectly balanced and moreish. Great served cool.
1 x Osa, Maremma Rosso by Querciarossa – Described as a “Baby Super Tuscan” Sangiovese and Merlot form the backbone of the wine with support from Cabernet Sauvignon and Canaiolo. Ripe, savoury and succulent it has bags of character and would be perfect with barbecued meat or vegetables.
